Overview

The MCP6001T-E/OT is a single-channel, general-purpose operational amplifier designed for low-power, rail-to-rail input and output operation. It operates with a supply voltage as low as 1.8V and a typical quiescent current of only 100uA, making it suitable for battery-powered applications. With a 1 MHz Gain Bandwidth Product, it provides a balance of speed and power efficiency in a compact 5-pin SOT-23 package.

Why Choose This Part

The MCP6001 offers a wide 1.8V to 6V operating range while maintaining a very low 100uA supply current. Its rail-to-rail input and output capability maximizes dynamic range, which is critical for low-voltage ADC interfacing. Additionally, the 1 pA input bias current minimizes errors when used with high-impedance signal sources.

Applications

Battery-Powered Instrumentation
Ideal for portable devices requiring low current consumption and the ability to swing the output to both supply rails.
Photodiode Amplifier
Utilizes the extremely low 1 pA input bias current to convert small sensor currents into measurable voltages.
Signal Conditioning
Acts as a buffer or gain stage for sensors in systems with single-supply rails ranging from 1.8V to 6V.
Active Filters
Supports the implementation of low-frequency analog filters in space-constrained industrial and consumer designs.

Getting Started

When prototyping, ensure bypass capacitors (typically 0.1uF) are placed close to the VDD pin to minimize noise. Since this is a surface-mount SOT-23 device, use an SOT-23 to DIP adapter for breadboarding. Evaluation can be performed using the Microchip MCP6XXX Amplifier Evaluation Board (ADM00288) to test various circuit configurations.
