Overview

The MCP6002-I/P is a dual general-purpose operational amplifier featuring rail-to-rail input and output swing across a 1.8V to 6.0V operating range. With a 1 MHz Gain Bandwidth Product and a low typical quiescent current of 100uA per channel, it is optimized for battery-powered applications and low-voltage signal conditioning. This variant is provided in an 8-pin PDIP package, making it ideal for through-hole prototyping and educational environments.

Why Choose This Part

The primary advantage is the rail-to-rail input/output capability which maximizes dynamic range in low-voltage systems. Its 1 pA input bias current minimizes errors in high-impedance circuits, while the 8-PDIP form factor allows for easy use in breadboards and sockets without surface-mount soldering.

Applications

Photodiode Amplifier
Utilizes the ultra-low 1 pA input bias current to convert low-level current signals from sensors into measurable voltages.
Battery-Powered Instrumentation
Ideal for portable devices due to the low 100uA supply current and ability to operate down to 1.8V.
Active Analog Filters
Used in audio or sensor signal chains to create low-pass or band-pass filters with a 1 MHz bandwidth.

Getting Started

To evaluate the MCP6002-I/P, simply plug it into a standard breadboard and provide a regulated DC supply between 1.8V and 6V. Ensure a 0.1uF ceramic bypass capacitor is placed close to the VDD pin for stability. For rapid prototyping with microcontrollers, it is commonly used to buffer analog-to-digital converter (ADC) inputs.
