Overview

The MCP6002T-I/SN is a dual general-purpose operational amplifier featuring rail-to-rail input and output swing. It is designed for low-power operation with a typical quiescent current of 100uA per channel and operates across a wide supply voltage range of 1.8V to 6V. This component is optimized for battery-powered and sensor-interfacing applications where cost and power efficiency are primary design constraints.

Why Choose This Part

This amplifier provides a balanced performance profile with a 1 MHz gain bandwidth product and a 0.6V/us slew rate while maintaining a very low 100uA supply current. Its rail-to-rail input and output capability allows for maximum signal-to-noise ratio in low-voltage single-supply designs. The low input bias current is particularly advantageous for precision interfacing with high-impedance sources.

Applications

Photodiode Amplifier
The low input bias current of 1pA makes this device suitable for converting high-impedance sensor signals into measurable voltages.
Battery-Powered Instrumentation
Low power consumption and rail-to-rail operation maximize the dynamic range in 1.8V to 5V portable systems.
Analog Active Filters
Utilized in building second-order Sallen-Key or multiple-feedback filters for signal conditioning up to the 1 MHz gain bandwidth limit.
Buffer Amplifiers
Used as a high-impedance buffer to prevent loading effects between sensor stages and microcontroller ADC inputs.

Getting Started

When designing with the MCP6002, ensure a 0.1uF ceramic bypass capacitor is placed close to the VDD pin to minimize noise. For prototyping, the 8-SOIC package can be used with standard SOIC-to-DIP adapter boards on a breadboard. Engineers should verify that the 6V maximum supply voltage is not exceeded, especially in automotive or industrial environments with unregulated rails.
