MCHPMCP73871-2AAI/ML
Overview
The MCP73871-2AAI/ML is a highly integrated lithium-ion/polymer battery charge management controller with system load sharing. It allows the system to be powered by an external source (USB or AC-DC adapter) while simultaneously and independently charging the battery. The device automatically switches the load to the battery when the external power source is removed.
Why Choose This Part
The integrated load sharing logic ensures the system remains powered even if the battery is deeply discharged or absent. It features a 4.2V regulation voltage and includes safety features such as over-temperature protection and a charge status indicator in a space-saving 20-QFN package.

Getting Started
Engineers should consult the MCP73871 Evaluation Board (MCP73871EV) to test the load sharing and charging transitions. Ensure the PROG1 and PROG2 pins are correctly jumpered or resistor-tuned to set the desired fast charge current and USB current limits.
