Overview

The MDBT42Q-P512KV2 is a multi-protocol Bluetooth v5.4 and Zigbee module based on the Nordic nRF52832 SoC. It features an integrated PCB trace antenna and an ARM Cortex-M4F core, providing a balance of processing power and power efficiency for wireless sensor nodes and IoT devices. The module operates from 1.7V to 3.6V and offers up to 512KB of Flash and 64KB of RAM for application code and protocol stacks.

Why Choose This Part

This module provides a pre-certified hardware solution that simplifies RF design by including the PCB antenna and necessary matching circuitry. Its ARM Cortex-M4F core with DSP instructions and FPU allows for edge-side data processing, while the EasyDMA feature reduces CPU overhead during data transfers. The extremely low standby current of 0.3uA significantly extends battery life in periodically active applications.

Applications

Smart Home Automation
Ideal for battery-powered light switches, climate sensors, and smart locks using Zigbee or Bluetooth Mesh protocols.
Wearable Medical Devices
Utilizes the integrated FPU and low sleep current of 1.9uA for long-term health monitoring and biometric data processing.
Industrial IoT Sensors
Enables wireless data collection in factory environments with -96dBm sensitivity and rugged surface-mount packaging.
Digital Audio and Voice
Supports PDM for digital microphones and I2S for audio streaming in voice-controlled peripherals.

Getting Started

Developers can use the Nordic Semiconductor nRF5 SDK or the newer nRF Connect SDK with Zephyr RTOS for application development. The module is pin-compatible with other MDBT42Q series modules, allowing for easy migration between antenna options. For prototyping, the Raytac MDBT42Q-AT-UART-S or Nordic nRF52-DK can be used to flash firmware via SWD using a Segger J-Link debugger.
