Overview

The MIC2288YML-TR is a high-power-density, 1.2MHz PWM boost switching regulator designed for space-constrained applications. It supports a wide input voltage range from 2.5V to 10V and can generate output voltages up to 34V. Housed in a tiny 2mm x 2mm DFN package, it is capable of delivering over 1A of switch current while maintaining low output ripple.

Why Choose This Part

The 1.2MHz switching frequency allows for the use of very small inductors and ceramic capacitors, reducing the overall PCB footprint. It features a low 1 microamp shutdown current to extend battery life and includes integrated overvoltage protection and thermal shutdown for robust operation. The device maintains excellent line and load regulation of less than 1 percent across its operating range.

Applications

LCD Bias Supplies
Generating the high-voltage rails required for thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD bias circuitry from low-voltage battery inputs.
OLED Display Power
Providing stable, low-noise power for organic LED displays in handheld and portable devices.
White LED Backlighting
Driving series-connected LED strings for uniform brightness in display backlighting applications.
Portable Equipment
General purpose step-up conversion in battery-powered electronics requiring a compact footprint and high efficiency.

Getting Started

When designing your PCB, place the input and output capacitors as close as possible to the IC to minimize parasitic inductance. Use a wide trace for the power ground and ensure the exposed pad of the DFN package is soldered to a large ground plane for optimal thermal dissipation. Reference the datasheet's compensation table to select appropriate RC values for the FB pin based on your target output voltage and load.
