Overview

The MIC5317-3.3YM5-TR is a high-performance 150mA low dropout regulator (LDO) designed for battery-powered applications and space-constrained designs. It provides a fixed 3.3V output from an input range of 2.5V to 6V, featuring an ultra-low quiescent current of 29uA. The device includes a dedicated enable pin for power management and maintains high PSRR across a wide frequency range to ensure clean power delivery.

Why Choose This Part

This LDO stands out with an impressive PSRR of 80dB at 1kHz, making it excellent at filtering out power supply noise. It features a very low dropout voltage of 0.31V at its full 150mA load, allowing for efficient operation even as battery voltage nears the regulated output level. Integrated safety features include thermal-shutdown and current-limit protection to safeguard the system during fault conditions.

Applications

Handheld Devices
Ideal for smartphones and tablets where low quiescent current and small footprint are critical for battery life.
IoT Sensor Nodes
Provides stable 3.3V power to microcontrollers and sensors with minimal power overhead during sleep modes.
USB-Powered Peripherals
Converts 5V USB bus voltage down to 3.3V for internal logic and communication ICs.
Portable Medical Equipment
Used in battery-operated diagnostic tools requiring low-noise power rails and thermal protection.

Getting Started

For implementation, place a 1uF ceramic capacitor on both the input and output pins as close to the SOT-23-5 package as possible to ensure stability. The EN pin must be driven high to enable the device; it can be tied directly to the input voltage if hardware-level control is not required. Thermal performance should be calculated based on the differential between input and output voltage multiplied by the load current.
