Overview

The MIC5504-3.3YM5-TR is a compact, low-quiescent-current LDO regulator designed to provide a fixed 3.3V output from an input range of 2.5V to 5.5V. It delivers up to 300mA of output current while maintaining a very low typical ground current of 38 uA, making it suitable for battery-powered applications. The device includes an enable pin with an internal pull-down and an auto-discharge circuit to ensure the output is quickly brought to zero when disabled.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator features a high PSRR of 60dB at 1kHz, which is critical for filtering noise in sensitive analog circuits. It integrates thermal shutdown and current-limit protection into a tiny SOT-23-5 package, ensuring robust performance in space-constrained designs. Additionally, the extremely low shutdown current of 0.05 uA maximizes battery shelf life in off-state conditions.

Applications

Portable Electronics
Provides a stable 3.3V rail for microcontrollers and sensors in handheld devices like GPS units and digital cameras.
Medical Devices
Used in battery-operated medical monitors where high PSRR and low quiescent current are required.
Smartphone Subsystems
Acts as a local regulator for noise-sensitive peripherals within a mobile handset architecture.
5V System Regulation
Efficiently steps down standard 5V USB or logic supplies to 3.3V for low-voltage digital components.

Getting Started

When integrating this LDO, place a 1uF ceramic capacitor close to the output pin to ensure stability. For thermal management, ensure adequate copper area is connected to the ground pin as the SOT-23-5 package relies on the PCB for heat dissipation. The enable pin can be driven directly by CMOS logic levels or tied to VIN if the auto-discharge feature is not required to be toggled.
