Overview

The MLX91216LDC-ACH-000-RE is a high-speed, monolithic Hall effect current sensor specifically designed for high-voltage, high-current automotive and industrial applications. It utilizes Melexis Proprietary IMC-Hall technology to provide a ratiometric analog output proportional to the magnetic flux density, allowing for non-intrusive current sensing when used with a busbar or trace. With a 250kHz bandwidth and a 2us response time, it is optimized for high-performance inverter and motor control feedback loops.

Why Choose This Part

The sensor is AEC-Q100 Grade 0 qualified, ensuring reliability in extreme automotive temperatures. Its IMC-Hall technology enables surface-mount PCB designs without the need for bulky core-based magnetic concentrators. Additionally, the 0.4 percent accuracy and low thermal drift minimize the need for complex software-based calibration.

Applications

EV Traction Inverters
High-bandwidth phase current sensing for motor control in electric and hybrid vehicles.
DC/DC Converters
Monitoring high-current DC rails in automotive power distribution units and charging systems.
Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Precise monitoring of charge and discharge currents in high-voltage battery packs.
Solar Inverters
Fast-acting current monitoring for grid-tie power electronics and MPPT stages.

Getting Started

Designers should place the SOIC8 package directly above a PCB trace or beneath a busbar to maximize magnetic flux coupling. Melexis provides programming tools to adjust sensitivity between 50 and 350mV/mT and to set clamping levels via the output pin. For initial evaluation, ensure the 5V VDD supply is decoupled with a 100nF capacitor close to the IC pins.
