MM232R
Overview
The MM232R is a compact USB to UART development module built around the FT232R interface IC. It provides a complete hardware transition from USB 2.0 Full Speed to a serial UART interface, supporting data rates from 300 Baud up to 3 MBaud. The module is designed with a standard 0.1 inch pitch header, making it immediately compatible with breadboards and prototyping environments.
Why Choose This Part
The module simplifies design by integrating the clock generator, EEPROM, and USB termination resistors directly into the hardware. It features a unique Security ID number for hardware protection and offers flexible CBUS I/O pins that can be configured for LED status or bit-bang modes. Engineering time is further reduced by the availability of royalty-free VCP and D2XX drivers for all major operating systems.

Getting Started
To begin, plug the 16-pin module into a standard breadboard and connect a USB cable to the host PC. Install the FTDI Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers to treat the device as a standard serial port in your terminal software. For advanced features like bit-bang mode or EEPROM customization, use the FTDI D2XX driver library and FT_Prog utility.
