Overview
The NEO-M8J is a concurrent GNSS module from u-blox designed for high-performance positioning with low power consumption. It supports simultaneous reception of up to three GNSS systems, including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo, providing excellent sensitivity of -164dBm for reliable tracking in challenging environments. This module includes integrated flash memory for firmware updates and data logging, along with an internal LNA and SAW filter to simplify RF design.
Why Choose This Part
The NEO-M8J offers concurrent GNSS reception for superior position accuracy and faster time-to-first-fix (TTFF) compared to single-constellation modules. It features a wide supply voltage range of 1.65V to 3.6V and versatile communication interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C, and USB. The inclusion of an internal LNA and antenna supervisor simplifies the bill of materials for engineers designing active or passive antenna circuits.

Getting Started
Engineers can evaluate the module using the u-blox EVK-M8 series evaluation kits and the u-center GNSS evaluation software for Windows. Connection to a host microcontroller is typically handled via the DDC (I2C) or UART interface using the standard NMEA or proprietary UBX protocols. Ensure proper ground plane design for the antenna circuit and utilize the built-in timepulse output for precision timing applications.
