Overview

The NEO-M8M-0 is a versatile, concurrent GNSS receiver module designed for high-sensitivity positioning with support for GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. It operates on a wide supply voltage range from 1.65V to 3.6V and features an integrated LCC package for compact surface-mount integration. With a tracking sensitivity of -167dBm and a 21mA continuous current draw at 3.0V, it balances performance and power efficiency.

Why Choose This Part

The module excels in signal integrity by providing active CW detection and removal to mitigate interference. It is engineered for low-power operation with a dedicated Power Save mode and features an onboard RTC crystal for faster cold starts. The availability of multiple interfaces including SPI, I2C, and USB 2.0 simplifies integration with various host processors.

Applications

Fleet Management
Utilizes concurrent GNSS reception for reliable vehicle tracking in urban canyons and challenging environments.
Asset Tracking
Leverages the integrated odometer and geofencing capabilities to monitor movement and boundary crossings for high-value goods.
Industrial IoT Gateways
Provides precise timing and location data via USB, UART, or I2C interfaces for distributed sensor networks.
Security and Integrity
Employs built-in spoofing detection and SHA 256 signal signature features to ensure the authenticity of positioning data.

Getting Started

Designers can evaluate the module using the u-blox EVK-M8 evaluation kits which provide access to all interfaces and the u-center GNSS evaluation software. Integration requires connecting a suitable GNSS antenna to the RF input and configuring the module via the NMEA or UBX protocols over UART or I2C. Ensure proper thermal relief on the 24-pin LCC package during reflow.
