Overview

The OPA2132 is a dual, high-speed JFET-input operational amplifier designed for precision audio and signal-chain applications. It combines low noise (8nV/rtHz) and low distortion with a high slew rate of 20V/us and an 8MHz bandwidth. The JFET input stage provides very low input bias current, making it ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces.

Why Choose This Part

The OPA2132 offers a superior combination of high speed (20V/us) and low noise without the high power consumption of specialized video amps. Its wide supply range from +/-2.5V to +/-18V provides significant headroom for professional audio rails. Because it is unity-gain stable, it is easy to implement in standard voltage follower or buffer configurations.

Applications

High-Fidelity Audio Preamplifiers
Used in professional audio equipment to maintain signal integrity with ultra-low total harmonic distortion.
Photodiode Transimpedance Amplifiers
The low JFET input bias current makes it suitable for converting small currents from optical sensors into measurable voltages.
Precision Data Acquisition
Acts as a high-speed buffer or gain stage for ADCs in instrumentation where DC precision and AC performance are both required.
Active Filters
Excellent for high-order Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley filters in audio crossovers due to its high bandwidth and stability.

Getting Started

Engineers typically prototype with the OPA2132P (PDIP-8) on a standard breadboard or the OPA2132U (SOIC-8) using an adapter PCB. Ensure high-frequency decoupling with 0.1uF ceramic capacitors placed as close as possible to the V+ and V- supply pins. Use a split-rail power supply to take full advantage of the device's wide dynamic range and input common-mode performance.
