Overview

The PCA82C250T is a high-speed CAN transceiver that serves as the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical bus. Designed for automotive and industrial environments, it supports data rates up to 1 MBd and is fully compatible with the ISO 11898 standard. The device features a differential receiver with a wide common-mode range to provide high electromagnetic immunity (EMI).

Why Choose This Part

The IC includes slope control functionality to minimize RFI and is protected against transients in automotive environments. It supports at least 110 nodes on a single bus and features a low-current standby mode that consumes only 170uA. Safety features include thermal protection and short-circuit protection to both battery and ground.

Applications

Automotive In-Vehicle Networking
Used as the physical layer interface for body electronics, powertrain, and chassis control systems requiring ISO 11898 compliance.
Industrial Control Systems
Facilitates reliable communication in factory automation environments where high EMI resistance and transient protection are required.
Battery Management Systems
Acts as the communication bridge for monitoring individual cells and coordinating power distribution in EV and ESS applications.

Getting Started

To implement this transceiver, connect the TXD and RXD pins to your CAN controller (such as an MCU's integrated CAN peripheral) and the CANH/CANL pins to the physical bus. Use a resistor on pin 8 (RS) to adjust the slope control for EMI management or pull it high for standby mode. Ensure a 120-ohm termination resistor is present at both ends of the CAN bus network.
