TIPCA9306DCTR
Overview
The PCA9306DCTR is a dual bidirectional voltage-level translator designed for I2C, SMBus, and mixed-mode digital interfaces. It enables seamless communication between devices operating at different logic levels, supporting translation from 1.2 V to 3.3 V on Side A and 1.8 V to 5.5 V on Side B. Because it uses a pass-gate architecture, it provides translation without the need for a dedicated direction pin.
Why Choose This Part
The device offers a very low propagation delay of less than 1.5 ns and a low ON-state resistance of 3.5 ohms, ensuring signal integrity at high speeds. Its flow-through pinout simplifies PCB routing by placing input and output pins directly across from each other. Additionally, the open-drain compatible I/O ports are 5 V tolerant, providing robust protection in multi-voltage environments.

Getting Started
To implement the PCA9306, pull-up resistors are required on both sides of the translator to reach the high-level logic voltage. The VREF2 pin must be connected to the higher supply voltage through a 200-kohm resistor, while the EN pin should be tied directly to VREF2 for normal operation. Designers should place the SSOP-8 package close to the lower-voltage device to minimize parasitic capacitance on the sensitive bus lines.
