Overview

The PIC16F1829-I/SS is an 8-bit microcontroller from Microchip's Enhanced Mid-range family featuring eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology. Operating at up to 32MHz, it integrates 14KB of flash memory and 1K of RAM into a compact 20-SSOP package, making it suitable for space-constrained, battery-operated applications.

Why Choose This Part

This MCU offers hardware-level context saving for interrupts and a 16-level deep hardware stack to simplify firmware development. Its wide operating voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V and robust 25mA I/O drive capability allow it to interface directly with a variety of digital logic levels and small loads.

Applications

Capacitive Touch Interfaces
Utilizes integrated mTouch sensing technology for buttons, sliders, and wheels in consumer products.
Battery-Powered Sensors
Leverages XLP technology with typical run currents of 48 microamps per MHz at 1.8V to extend battery life.
Industrial Communication Bridges
Acts as a protocol converter using dual I2C/SPI interfaces and a dedicated UART for LINbus or serial data handling.
Lighting and Power Control
Manages LED drivers or small power stages using its internal PWM modules and 17 available I/O pins.

Getting Started

Develop using the Microchip MPLAB X IDE and the XC8 compiler. Hardware debugging and programming are supported via the PICkit 4 or MPLAB ICD 4 through the In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) interface. For rapid prototyping, the Curiosity Development Board (DM164137) provides a compatible socketed environment.
