Overview

The PIC18F14K22-I/P is an 8-bit microcontroller from Microchip's XLP (eXtreme Low Power) family, featuring 16KB of Flash memory and a 64MHz maximum clock speed. This 20-pin PDIP version is a popular choice for prototyping and legacy industrial designs, offering a mix of high performance and low power consumption at 2.3V to 5.5V operating levels.

Why Choose This Part

The part features a 64MHz internal oscillator with a 4X PLL, eliminating the need for external crystals in many timing-sensitive applications. It includes a hardware 8x8 multiplier for faster math operations and remains highly versatile with 5V tolerant I/O and a wide 2.3V to 5.5V VDD range.

Applications

Low-Power Handheld Devices
Leverages XLP technology with sleep currents as low as 34nA for battery-critical applications.
Industrial Communication Bridges
Uses the integrated UART, SPI, and I2C peripherals to act as a protocol converter or interface controller.
Home Automation Nodes
Suited for simple sensor monitoring and actuator control within a 5V logic environment.
Educational Prototyping
The through-hole PDIP package allows for easy use on breadboards and socketed development targets.

Getting Started

To begin development, use the MPLAB X IDE and the XC8 C compiler. A hardware programmer such as the MPLAB PICkit 4 or Snap is required for In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) via the 20-DIP pins. Note that the PDIP package is ideal for breadboarding without needing an adapter.
