Overview

The RAA7881732GSU#AB0 is a low-power, full-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver designed for 3V to 3.6V operation. It supports data rates up to 500kbps and includes a 12uA low-power shutdown mode to extend battery life in remote applications. This transceiver is housed in a compact 10-pin MSOP package, making it suitable for space-constrained industrial and building automation designs.

Why Choose This Part

This device offers a high-performance balance of 500kbps throughput and a very low 0.8mA maximum operating current. The 15mV receiver hysteresis improves noise immunity, while the 10-pin MSOP package provides a significantly smaller footprint than standard 14-pin SOIC alternatives.

Applications

Automated Utility Metering
Ideal for remote meter reading systems that require low standby current and reliable long-distance communication.
Building Environmental Control
Used in HVAC and lighting networks to manage sensor data and actuator commands over a field bus.
Industrial Process Control
Provides a robust interface for high-node-count industrial networks operating in electrically noisy environments.
Security Camera Networks
Facilitates PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) control signals and telemetry for surveillance systems.

Getting Started

When designing with this transceiver, ensure the full-duplex wiring (separate RX and TX pairs) is correctly terminated with 120-ohm resistors at the end of the cable run. Evaluate the 12uA shutdown mode by toggling the enable pins to minimize power draw during idle periods. Standard RS-485 protection circuits, such as TVS diodes, should be placed near the MSOP pins for IEC-61000 level transients.
