Overview

The SCD41 is a high-accuracy CO2, humidity, and temperature sensor built on Sensirion's PASens photoacoustic technology. It offers a compact 10.1mm x 10.1mm x 6.5mm LGA footprint and is specifically designed for integration into space-constrained air quality monitoring devices.

Why Choose This Part

The sensor features a wide supply voltage range of 2.4V to 5.5V and includes integrated signal compensation for temperature and humidity. Its photoacoustic NDIR technology allows for a significantly smaller package than traditional NDIR sensors without sacrificing the 400 to 5,000 ppm measurement range.

Applications

Demand-Controlled Ventilation
Optimizes HVAC systems by measuring CO2 levels to ensure fresh air intake only when needed, complying with California Title 24.
Battery-Powered Air Quality Monitors
Uses single-shot and low-power periodic modes to extend battery life in portable environmental sensing devices.
Smart Home Automation
Integrates into thermostats and air purifiers to trigger filtration or ventilation based on occupant-driven CO2 increases.

Key Specifications

Type Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Humidity, Temperature
Output I2C
Accuracy +/-5%
Voltage - Supply 2.4V ~ 5.5V
Operating Temperature -10degC ~ 60degC

Getting Started

Connect the sensor via its I2C interface to any microcontroller with 2.4V-5.5V logic. For rapid prototyping, Sensirion provides the SEK-SCD41 evaluation kit which connects directly to a PC via the SEK-SensorBridge.

Also Consider

SCD40 Sensirion - Lower cost alternative if the extended measurement range and single-shot mode of the SCD41 are not required.
SPS30 Sensirion - An optical particulate matter sensor to complement CO2 data for more comprehensive indoor air quality monitoring.
