Overview

The SFH 203 P is a PIN photodiode housed in a 5 mm T1 3/4 plastic package, optimized for high-speed light detection across a wide spectral range from 400 nm to 1100 nm. It features an exceptionally fast response time of 5 ns and a large viewing angle of 150 degrees, making it suitable for high-frequency signal reception and wide-area monitoring. With a peak sensitivity at 850 nm and low dark current of 1 nA, it provides a high signal-to-noise ratio for both visible and near-infrared applications.

Why Choose This Part

The SFH 203 P offers a superior balance of speed and sensitivity, featuring a fast 5 ns switching time that enables data rates up to 200 MHz. Its wide 150 degree viewing angle reduces the need for precise mechanical alignment in non-directional sensing applications. Additionally, the low 1 nA dark current and integrated 2 kV ESD protection ensure stable operation in electrically noisy environments.

Applications

Industrial Optical Control
Ideal for high-speed light barriers, rotary encoders, and industrial sensing where fast switching and wide spectral response are required.
Remote Control Receivers
Used in infrared communication systems and consumer electronics for detecting 850 nm signals with minimal latency.
Proximity and Access Control
Provides reliable detection for security systems and smart home access panels due to its 150 degree viewing angle.
Optical Data Transmission
The 200 MHz bandwidth supports high-frequency modulated optical links for short-range wireless data transfer.

Getting Started

When integrating the SFH 203 P, it should be used in a reverse-bias configuration to maximize its 5 ns switching speed and bandwidth. Connect the cathode to a positive supply voltage (up to 20 V) and use a high-speed transimpedance amplifier (TIA) to convert the photocurrent into a usable voltage signal. For prototyping, the standard 5 mm T1 3/4 through-hole leads are compatible with standard breadboards and 0.1 inch pitch headers.
