SFH 320-3/4-Z
Overview
The SFH 320-3/4-Z is a silicon NPN phototransistor housed in a compact SMT PLCC-2 package, optimized for the near-infrared spectrum with a peak sensitivity at 980nm. It features a wide viewing angle of 120 degrees and is designed for high-volume automated assembly in light-controlled switching and monitoring circuits. This component provides a collector-emitter breakdown voltage of 35V and operates reliably across a wide temperature range from -40C to 100C.
Why Choose This Part
The PLCC-2 package provides a standardized surface-mount footprint that is compatible with infrared reflow soldering and automatic pick-and-place equipment. It offers a very low dark current of 50nA (max), ensuring high signal-to-noise ratios in low-light applications. The 120-degree wide viewing angle allows for flexible mechanical alignment between the emitter and this sensor.

Getting Started
To integrate this phototransistor, design a common-emitter or common-collector circuit with a load resistor selected to match your desired response speed and sensitivity. Ensure the 980nm peak sensitivity aligns with your IR LED source for maximum efficiency. For prototyping, the PLCC-2 footprint can be hand-soldered or mounted on a standard SOT-23/PLCC adapter PCB.
