SFH 3219-Z
Overview
The SFH 3219-Z is an NPN silicon phototransistor in a compact 2-PLCC TOPLED package featuring a peak sensitivity at 990nm. It provides high linearity across a wide spectral range of 450nm to 1150nm, making it a versatile detector for infrared light in various sensing applications. The clear epoxy lens and surface-mount design ensure compatibility with standard automated assembly and all common soldering methods.
Why Choose This Part
The component features a very low dark current of 50 nA at 20V, which improves the signal-to-noise ratio in low-light conditions. Its wide 50-degree viewing angle and high 35V collector-emitter breakdown voltage provide significant design margin for rugged industrial environments. Additionally, it shares the same footprint as the SFH 4249 and SFH 4259 IR emitters, simplifying optical path alignment during PCB layout.

Getting Started
To integrate this part, design a common-emitter or common-collector circuit with a load resistor selected based on the 15mA max collector current and 35V breakdown voltage. Ensure the optical axis is aligned with a matched 940nm or 950nm IR emitter for peak performance. Use standard reflow soldering profiles compatible with PLCC-2 surface mount packages.
