Overview

The SFH 47278AS A01 is a high-power 940nm infrared emitter from the OSLON Black series, specifically designed for automotive in-cabin sensing applications. This double-stack emitter provides a high radiant intensity of 250mW/sr at 1A and is optimized for high-current pulse operation up to 1.5A. It features a broad radiation pattern of 130 degrees to 155 degrees and is AEC-Q102 qualified for use in demanding vehicle environments.

Why Choose This Part

The component offers excellent thermal management with a low thermal resistance of 6.6 K/W and high corrosion robustness (Class 3B). Its double-stack technology delivers high optical output in a compact 3.75mm x 3.75mm package, making it ideal for space-constrained automotive interior locations. The 940nm wavelength is well-suited for reducing the 'red glow' visible to the human eye compared to 850nm alternatives.

Applications

Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS)
Tracking eye movement and head position to detect driver drowsiness or distraction.
Occupant Monitoring
Identifying the presence and position of passengers for airbag optimization and safety compliance.
Gesture Sensing
Enabling touchless control of infotainment and HVAC systems through IR-based hand tracking.
Child Presence Detection
Monitoring rear seats to prevent heatstroke incidents by detecting left-behind occupants.

Getting Started

When designing for high-current pulses, ensure the PCB layout includes sufficient copper area for the thermal pad to maintain a junction temperature below 145 degrees Celsius. Engineers should use a dedicated constant-current LED driver capable of 1.5A peaks and consider a narrow-band pass filter on the receiver side matched to the 940nm centroid wavelength to improve signal-to-noise ratio.

Also Consider

SFH 4715AS A01 ams OSRAM - Provides a narrower 80 degree viewing angle for applications requiring longer range or more focused illumination.
VSMY98545ADS VSHVishay - An AEC-Q101 qualified 850nm IR emitter for automotive applications where higher sensor sensitivity is prioritized over invisible illumination.
