Overview

The SI5356A-B-GM is a highly flexible, I2C programmable clock generator capable of synthesizing any frequency from 1 to 200 MHz on each of its eight outputs. Using MultiSynth fractional divider technology, it enables the generation of multiple unrelated frequencies with 0 ppm synthesis error, replacing several crystal oscillators with a single IC.

Why Choose This Part

The primary advantage is the MultiSynth technology which provides 0 ppm frequency accuracy across eight independent outputs, significantly reducing PCB footprint and BOM cost. It also features configurable spread spectrum for EMI reduction and integrated non-volatile memory (NVM) for storing custom power-up configurations.

Applications

Network Switches and Routers
Providing multiple low-jitter reference clocks for high-speed data planes and control processors.
Servers and Storage
Consolidating clock sources for PCIe, SATA, and SAS interfaces within high-density computing environments.
Broadcast Video Equipment
Generating precise pixel clocks and reference frequencies for video processing and display systems.
Industrial Automation
Synchronizing multiple subsystems in complex PLC or motor control environments requiring customized frequencies.

Getting Started

Engineers should use the Silicon Labs ClockBuilder Pro software to calculate frequency configurations and register maps. The device can be customized via the I2C interface or pre-programmed by the factory; for prototyping, the Si5356-EVB evaluation board provides a direct hardware platform for testing output performance.
