Overview

The SI8640AB-B-IS is a high-performance, four-channel digital isolator from Skyworks Solutions providing 2500Vrms isolation. It features four unidirectional channels oriented in a 4/0 configuration and utilizes capacitive coupling technology for high electromagnetic immunity. Operating between 2.5V and 5.5V, it supports data rates up to 1Mbps while maintaining a low-power footprint with 10uA standby current.

Why Choose This Part

This isolator provides superior common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 35kV/us, ensuring reliable data transfer in electrically noisy environments. It features Schmitt trigger inputs for clean signal transitions and tri-state outputs with an enable pin for flexible bus management. With a propagation delay of only 35ns, it maintains tight timing margins for digital signals.

Applications

Industrial Automation
Isolating fieldbus communications and PLC logic from high-voltage transients in factory environments.
Power Supply Monitoring
Providing safe isolation for voltage and current sensing circuitry in switched-mode power supplies.
Isolated JTAG/SWD
Safe debugging and programming of high-voltage boards by isolating the connection to the PC interface.
Battery Management Systems
Protecting low-voltage microcontrollers from high-voltage battery stack transients in EV or ESS applications.

Getting Started

To evaluate this part, use a breakout board for the 16-pin wide-body SOIC package and ensure 0.1uF bypass capacitors are placed as close as possible to the VDD1 and VDD2 pins. Design the PCB layout with at least 8mm of creepage and clearance between the isolated grounds to maintain the 2500Vrms safety rating. Verify that the logic levels on both sides match your respective VDD rails, as the device operates between 2.5V and 5.5V.
