SN65C3232EDWR

TISN65C3232EDWR

Texas Instruments
2/2 Transceiver Full RS232 16-SOIC
Active

Overview

The SN65C3232EDWR is a high-speed, dual-channel RS-232 transceiver designed for 3V to 5.5V systems. It features enhanced ESD protection and supports data rates up to 1Mbps, making it suitable for modern serial communication in noise-prone environments. This device uses a dual charge pump to maintain RS-232 compliant output levels from a single low-voltage supply.

Why Choose This Part

This transceiver supports high-speed 1Mbps operation, allowing for faster firmware updates and data logging compared to standard RS-232 ICs. It operates across a wide 3V to 5.5V supply range, simplifying designs by eliminating the need for dedicated 12V rails. The 300mV receiver hysteresis provides improved noise immunity for long cable runs in industrial settings.

Applications

Industrial Control Systems
Used for robust serial communication between PLCs, HMIs, and motor drives in factory automation environments.
Diagnostic Ports
Ideal for providing a rugged service and configuration interface for networking equipment and embedded servers.
Point-of-Sale Terminals
Facilitates reliable data transfer between POS terminals and peripheral devices like barcode scanners or receipt printers.
Battery Powered Instruments
The 3V compatible supply voltage and low power consumption make it suitable for portable handheld diagnostic tools.

Getting Started

To implement this part, place 0.1uF capacitors on the four charge pump pins (C1+/C1-, C2+/C2-) and the VCC/V+ pins as per the datasheet layout guidelines. Ensure the logic-side pins are connected to a microcontroller UART operating at the same VCC level. For prototyping, use an SOIC-16 to DIP adapter or a dedicated RS-232 breakout board to verify signal integrity at high baud rates.
