Overview

The SN74HC245N is a high-speed CMOS 8-bit bus transceiver designed for asynchronous two-way communication between data buses. It features non-inverting 3-state outputs and a wide operating voltage range from 2V to 6V, making it compatible with both legacy 5V systems and modern 3.3V logic.

Why Choose This Part

This transceiver offers very low input current of 1uA maximum and can drive up to 15 LSTTL loads, providing robust fan-out capabilities. Its bidirectional control logic is simplified with a single Direction pin and an Output Enable pin for high-impedance state management.

Applications

Level Shifting
Translating logic levels between 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers and peripherals in mixed-voltage systems.
Bus Isolation
Isolating high-capacitance bus lines to maintain signal integrity in complex digital architectures.
LED Matrix Driving
Providing up to 7.8mA of drive current per channel for controlling large arrays of indicators or small displays.
Breadboard Prototyping
Utilizing the 20-pin PDIP package for easy insertion into solderless breadboards during the development phase.

Getting Started

To use this on a breadboard, connect VCC to your system power (2V-6V) and GND to common ground. Set the DIR pin high for A-to-B data flow or low for B-to-A, and pull the OE (Output Enable) pin low to activate the outputs.
