Overview

The SS441A is a high-sensitivity unipolar Hall effect digital switch designed for reliable magnetic sensing in industrial and automotive environments. It operates across a wide supply voltage range of 3.8V to 30V and provides a temperature-compensated open-collector output that sinks up to 20mA. The sensor features a quad Hall IC design to minimize the effects of mechanical stress on the package.

Why Choose This Part

The SS441A offers superior thermal stability through built-in temperature compensation, ensuring consistent 11.5mT trip and 2mT release points from -40 to 150 degrees Celsius. Its open-collector output simplifies interfacing with various logic levels, while the quad-element design provides high resistance to physical stress and vibration.

Applications

Brushless DC Motor Commutation
Used to detect rotor position for precise timing of phase switching in high-efficiency motors.
Speed and RPM Sensing
Ideal for counting pulses from rotating magnetic targets in industrial machinery and automotive drivetrains.
Flow Rate Sensing
Monitors the rotation of internal paddles or impellers equipped with magnets to measure liquid or gas flow.
Position and Limit Sensing
Acts as a non-contact limit switch for moving mechanical assemblies to prevent over-travel or confirm home positions.

Getting Started

To integrate the SS441A, connect a pull-up resistor between the open-collector output pin and the logic supply voltage (Vcc). Ensure the south pole of the magnet faces the branded side of the TO-92 package to trigger the switch. For prototyping, the 0.1-inch lead spacing allows for easy insertion into standard breadboards or perfboards.
