STSPIN820

STSPIN820

STMicroelectronics
Bipolar Motor Driver Power MOSFET Logic 24-TQFPN (4x4)
Active21,146 in stock

Overview

The STSPIN820 is a high-performance bipolar stepper motor driver integrating a control logic and a fully protected low RDS(on) power stage in a compact 4x4 mm QFN package. It supports extreme microstepping down to 1/256th of a step, providing exceptionally smooth and quiet motor operation across a wide supply voltage range of 7V to 45V.

Why Choose This Part

It offers best-in-class motion smoothness with 256 microsteps per full step and integrated non-dissipative overcurrent protection. The device minimizes power loss through low RDS(on) MOSFETs and simplifies design by eliminating the need for bulky current-sensing resistors in some configurations via its advanced current control.

Applications

3D Printers
High-resolution microstepping enables precise filament extrusion and smooth axis movement for improved surface finish.
Medical Equipment
Used in fluid pumps and laboratory automation where low vibration and quiet operation are critical requirements.
Industrial Automation
Suitable for textile machines and small-scale 2D printers requiring reliable 1.5A peak current delivery.
CCTV Positioning
Provides the fine step resolution necessary for precise pan-tilt-zoom camera control systems.

Getting Started

Start development using the X-NUCLEO-IHM14A1 expansion board, which plugs directly into STM32 Nucleo ecosystems for rapid firmware prototyping. Engineers should configure the programmable OFF time and decay mode via external components to optimize torque and ripple for their specific motor winding.

Also Consider

DRV8825 TITexas Instruments - A widely used alternative supporting up to 1/32 microstepping and higher current ratings up to 2.5A.
TMC2208 Trinamic - Excellent choice for applications requiring ultra-silent operation via StealthChop technology at 1.2A RMS.
A4988 Allegro MicroSystems - A robust, industry-standard driver for simpler applications that do not require 256-level microstepping.
