Overview

The TC7662ACPA is a charge pump DC-to-DC voltage converter that operates from an input voltage range of 1.5V to 15V. It is a pin-compatible upgrade to the industry-standard 7660, capable of performing voltage inversion, doubling, or multiplication with high efficiency. This device is particularly useful for generating a negative supply rail in single-supply systems without the need for an inductor.

Why Choose This Part

The 8-DIP through-hole package makes this IC ideal for prototyping on breadboards and hand-soldered PCBs. It features a low typical quiescent current of 80uA and requires only two external non-critical capacitors for operation, significantly reducing board space and bill-of-materials complexity compared to inductor-based switching regulators.

Applications

Negative Rail Generation
Creating a -15V supply from a +15V source to power operational amplifiers and analog-to-digital converters.
RS-232 Power Supplies
Generating the required bipolar voltage rails for serial communication interfaces from a single 5V logic supply.
Voltage Doubling
Boosting low-voltage battery sources (e.g., 3V or 5V) to higher levels to drive specialized components like LCD biases.
Simple Voltage Multipliers
Cascading multiple units to generate high-voltage, low-current outputs for specific sensor biasing.

Getting Started

To use as a voltage inverter, connect the input supply to VDD, ground the GND pin, and place 10uF capacitors between the C+ and C- pins and from VOUT to ground. Ensure the output current does not exceed the 40mA rating provided by distributor specifications. For applications requiring lower noise, consider adding an LC filter or a linear regulator to the output of the charge pump.
