Overview

The TCAN1042HGVDRQ1 is an automotive-qualified (AEC-Q100) high-speed CAN transceiver that supports CAN FD data rates up to 5 Mbps. This device includes +/-70V bus fault protection and +/-30V common-mode voltage range, making it exceptionally robust for harsh electrical environments. It features an integrated Vio pin for level shifting, allowing direct interfacing with 3.3V or 5V microcontrollers.

Why Choose This Part

This transceiver offers industry-leading bus fault protection of +/-70V, protecting the device against battery shorts and 24V system transients. It meets the ISO 11898-2:2016 physical layer standard and provides high ESD protection, reducing the need for external transient voltage suppression components.

Applications

Automotive Body Electronics
Ideal for central gateway modules, door modules, and lighting control units requiring robust vehicle networking.
Industrial Automation
Suitable for rugged industrial fieldbus systems and factory automation where high electromagnetic immunity is required.
Electric Vehicle Charging
Provides reliable communication between EV charging stations and vehicle battery management systems.

Getting Started

When designing with this part, ensure a 100nF decoupling capacitor is placed close to the Vcc and Vio pins to maintain signal integrity. For hardware evaluation, TI provides the TCAN1042DEVM evaluation module which allows testing of all functional modes and timing parameters. Use standard twisted-pair cabling with 120-ohm termination at both ends of the bus for optimal high-speed performance.
