TEPT4400
Overview
The TEPT4400 is an NPN silicon phototransistor in a T-1 (3mm) package specifically designed to mimic the spectral sensitivity of the human eye. With a peak sensitivity of 570nm, it provides a linear response to ambient light across a range of 440nm to 800nm. This sensor is an environmentally friendly, RoHS-compliant replacement for cadmium sulfide (CdS) photoresistors in lighting control applications.
Why Choose This Part
The component features high photosensitivity and a narrow 60-degree viewing angle for directional light sensing. Its human-eye-matched response eliminates the need for complex IR-cut filtering in basic ambient light detection. Additionally, the low dark current of 50nA ensures minimal noise in low-light conditions.

Getting Started
To integrate this part, connect it in a common-emitter configuration with a load resistor to convert the collector current into a measurable voltage for an ADC. Ensure the operating voltage remains within the 1.5V to 6V range and account for the 60-degree orientation when positioning the radial package on the PCB.
