TMC2209-LA
Overview
The TMC2209-LA is a silent stepper motor driver from Trinamic (Analog Devices) that targets quiet, efficient control of bipolar stepper motors. It implements StealthChop2 for very low-noise operation and supports UART configuration for runtime parameter changes. The device can handle motor currents up to 2 A RMS.
Why Choose This Part
Choose the TMC2209-LA when you need extremely quiet stepper operation combined with runtime configurability. Its StealthChop2 mode minimizes audible noise and vibration, while UART access lets you tune current, microstepping, and other driver settings without changing hardware. The compact IC and integrated current handling up to 2 A RMS simplify board layout and reduce the need for external power-stage components.
Applications
Getting Started
Use a carrier or stepstick module for easy breadboarding, or mount the bare TMC2209-LA on a custom PCB with proper thermal vias and decoupling. Connect step, direction, enable lines to your MCU and a UART line for configuration; many projects use Arduino or STM32 MCUs to drive and configure the chip. Read the manufacturer datasheet and application notes for recommended PCB layout, current-setting resistor or configuration, and thermal limits before first power-up.
