Overview
The TMF8801-1BM is a direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) sensor capable of measuring distances from 20mm up to 2500mm with an integrated Cortex-M0 core and a SPAD-based architecture. It uses a histogram-based measurement system to provide reliable distance and signal quality data even under challenging light conditions or behind cover glass.
Why Choose This Part
The sensor features a Class 1 eye-safe VCSEL and dynamic cover glass calibration to maintain 5 percent accuracy despite smudge or scratches on the protective lens. Its histogram architecture effectively filters out multi-path reflections and ambient noise, ensuring high-quality data output via the I2C interface.
Applications
Presence Detection
Used in smart lighting and home automation to trigger actions when a person enters a defined 2.5m range.
Robot Navigation
Provides obstacle detection and wall-following capabilities for small mobile robots and vacuum cleaners.
Industrial Proximity Sensing
Reliable object counting or safety zone monitoring in automated factory environments.
Camera Auto-Focus Assist
Supplies high-speed distance data to mobile device processors to improve low-light focus performance.
