Overview

The TSOP38238 is a miniaturized infrared receiver module designed for infrared remote control systems. It integrates a photo detector and a preamplifier into a single three-pin Minicast package, featuring an internal band-pass filter tuned to a 38.0kHz center frequency.

Why Choose This Part

The module offers high immunity against ambient light interference from LCD TVs and fluorescent lamps while maintaining a very low typical supply current of 0.35 mA. It supports a wide supply voltage range from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and provides a long sensing distance of up to 45m.

Applications

Consumer Electronics Control
Standard IR receiver for televisions, set-top boxes, and audio systems using 38kHz carrier frequencies.
Smart Home Integration
Acting as a gateway interface for IR-to-WiFi or IR-to-Zigbee bridges to control legacy appliances.
Industrial Remote Interfacing
Providing wireless optical input for non-critical industrial control panels or diagnostic triggers.

Getting Started

Connect the VS pin to a 3.3V or 5V rail and GND to the system ground, typically adding a 100 Ohm resistor and 4.7 uF capacitor as a supply filter. The OUT pin provides a demodulated logic signal that can be decoded by any microcontroller using standard IR libraries like IRremote for Arduino.
