Overview

The TXB0104 is a 4-bit bidirectional voltage level translator designed for systems requiring voltage translation between two different supply voltage nodes. It automatically senses the direction of data flow, eliminating the need for an external direction-control signal. This makes it suitable for translating signals between devices operating at different voltage levels, supporting a wide range of VCCA (1.2V to 3.6V) and VCCB (1.65V to 5.5V).

Why Choose This Part

The TXB0104's automatic direction sensing simplifies design by removing the need for a dedicated direction control pin, reducing pin count and software overhead. Its wide operating voltage ranges for both VCCA and VCCB allow for flexible integration into many mixed-voltage systems. With low power consumption (5uA IQ) and ESD protection on the B port, it offers robust and efficient voltage translation.

Applications

I2C or SPI Communication
Translates I2C or SPI signals between microcontrollers and peripherals operating at different voltage levels without complex control logic.
GPIO Voltage Shifting
Adjusts the voltage levels of general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins to interface components with incompatible voltage requirements, such as a 3.3V microcontroller controlling a 5V sensor.
Mixed-Voltage Systems
Enables interoperability in embedded systems that integrate components operating at various supply voltages, simplifying circuit design.
SD Card Interfaces
Provides voltage translation for SD card interfaces, which often operate at 3.3V, when connected to a microcontroller operating at a different voltage.

Getting Started

To get started with the TXB0104, connect VCCA to the lower voltage supply and VCCB to the higher voltage supply. Connect the data lines to be translated between the A and B ports. No external resistors or direction pins are typically needed. Refer to the datasheet for specific package pinouts and recommended bypass capacitor placement.
