Overview

The TXS0104E is a 4-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator designed for interfacing between different logic voltage rails. It features auto-direction sensing, allowing for seamless communication without the need for a dedicated direction control signal. This device is compatible with both open-drain and push-pull CMOS logic outputs, supporting data rates up to 24Mbps.

Why Choose This Part

The TXS0104E eliminates the need for direction-control pins, reducing firmware complexity and saving GPIO resources. It features integrated pull-up resistors optimized for open-drain applications while maintaining compatibility with push-pull signals. Additionally, it offers robust ESD protection and requires no specific power-supply sequencing during power-up.

Applications

I2C/SMBus Level Shifting
Ideal for open-drain protocols like I2C where the auto-direction sensing simplifies bi-directional data flow between 1.8V and 3.3V or 5V domains.
GPIO Voltage Translation
Commonly used to interface low-voltage microcontrollers with higher-voltage peripherals or sensors across 1.65V to 5.5V ranges.
UART Communication
Supports high-speed asynchronous serial communication between systems with mismatched logic levels.
SD Card Interfacing
Enables signal level matching for SD cards and other push-pull interfaces requiring bidirectional 4-bit translation.

Getting Started

To use the TXS0104E, ensure VCCA is always less than or equal to VCCB, with VCCA ranging from 1.65V to 3.6V and VCCB from 2.3V to 5.5V. For evaluation, the TXS0104EEVM is available to test the 14-pin SOIC (D) or TSSOP (PW) packages. Connect the Output Enable (OE) pin to VCCA through a pull-down resistor to ensure a high-impedance state during power-up or power-down.
