Overview

The TXS0108ERGYR is an 8-bit, bidirectional voltage-level translator specifically designed for bridging logic signals between different supply rails without a direction-control signal. It utilizes an auto-direction sensing architecture with internal pull-up resistors, making it suitable for interfacing legacy 5V logic with modern 1.8V, 2.5V, or 3.3V microcontrollers.

Why Choose This Part

This device eliminates the need for a dedicated DIR pin, simplifying PCB routing and reducing MCU pin count. It supports open-drain and push-pull applications simultaneously thanks to integrated 10k ohm pull-up resistors. The VQFN package provides a small footprint while maintaining high-speed performance for data rates up to 60 Mbps in push-pull mode.

Applications

I2C Level Shifting
Translating SDA and SCL lines between masters and slaves operating at different voltages in multi-drop environments.
SD Card Interfacing
Shifting signals between a 3.3V SD card and a low-voltage application processor or FPGA.
GPIO Expansion
Connecting low-voltage MCU pins to higher voltage peripherals like 5V sensors or display controllers.
MDIO Interfaces
Managing management data input/output lines between networking PHYs and MAC controllers with mismatched IO voltages.

Getting Started

When designing with this part, ensure VCCA is always less than or equal to VCCB to maintain proper operation. Connect the OE pin to GND through a pull-down resistor to ensure the high-impedance state during power-up and power-down cycles. Decouple both VCCA and VCCB supply pins with 0.1 uF ceramic capacitors placed as close to the IC as possible.
