Overview

The UA7805CKTTR is a fixed-output positive linear voltage regulator designed to provide a stable 5V output from a higher input voltage up to 25V. It is capable of delivering up to 1.5A of output current and features internal thermal-overload protection and short-circuit current limiting. This device is housed in a surface-mount TO-263 (DDPAK) package, which provides high power-dissipation capability suitable for demanding power management tasks.

Why Choose This Part

This regulator is highly robust, featuring internal thermal-overload protection and output transistor safe-area compensation. It is designed to be stable even without an output capacitor in many configurations, simplifying the bill of materials, and offers a high PSRR of up to 78dB for effective noise rejection.

Applications

On-card Regulation
Local voltage regulation on PCBs to eliminate distribution problems associated with single-point regulation.
Industrial Power Supplies
Providing a stable 5V rail for logic circuits and microcontrollers in industrial control systems.
Computing and Servers
Used in secondary regulation stages for infrastructure equipment and networking hardware.
Portable Electronics
Regulating battery or external adapter voltages for internal 5V subsystems.

Getting Started

When designing with the UA7805CKTTR, ensure the tab of the TO-263 package is soldered to a sufficient copper area for heat sinking, as the device can dissipate significant power. Although it is stable without an output capacitor, adding a 0.1 uF ceramic capacitor at the input and a 0.33 uF capacitor at the output is recommended for improved transient response and stability in most layouts.
