Overview

The ULN2003ADR is a high-voltage, high-current Darlington transistor array consisting of seven NPN Darlington pairs that feature common-cathode clamp diodes for switching inductive loads. Each channel is rated for 500mA and can withstand peak voltages up to 50V, making it a standard interface between low-level logic and high-power peripherals.

Why Choose This Part

The integrated clamp diodes eliminate the need for external flyback diodes when driving inductive loads, saving significant PCB real estate. Its 16-SOIC surface mount package supports automated assembly while providing seven independent channels capable of 500mA each.

Applications

Inductive Load Switching
Driving mechanical relays and small solenoids where back-EMF protection is required via internal clamp diodes.
Stepper Motor Control
Operating unipolar stepper motors by sequencing the four phases through the Darlington pairs.
LED Matrix Driving
Sinking current for high-power LED segments or large display arrays that exceed standard MCU GPIO limits.
Logic Level Translation
Interfacing low-voltage TTL or 5V CMOS logic to higher voltage peripherals up to 50V.

Getting Started

To use the ULN2003ADR, connect the GND pin to the logic ground and the COM pin to the load supply voltage to enable inductive transient suppression. Since it is a current-sinking driver, the load should be connected between the positive supply and the ULN2003ADR collector outputs.
