VEML6030-GS15
Overview
The VEML6030-GS15 is a high-accuracy 16-bit ambient light sensor that communicates via a standard I2C interface. It is designed to mimic the human eye's spectral sensitivity with a peak response at 550nm and features Filtron technology for robust background light rejection. This sensor is highly efficient, drawing as little as 0.5uA in shutdown mode, making it suitable for battery-operated systems.
Why Choose This Part
The sensor offers an impressive dynamic range from 0 lx to 140 klx with a resolution down to 0.004 lx per count. It includes integrated flicker noise rejection for 100 Hz and 120 Hz sources, ensuring stable readings under artificial lighting. The ultra-low power consumption and small 2.0mm x 2.0mm footprint make it ideal for space-constrained wearable and IoT designs.

Getting Started
To begin development, connect the sensor to an I2C master device and pull up the SDA and SCL lines to a supply between 2.5V and 3.6V. Drivers are widely available for platforms like Arduino and CircuitPython, allowing for quick configuration of the 16-bit ADC and gain settings via internal registers. Use the interrupt pin to wake a host MCU only when specific light thresholds are crossed to maximize battery life.
