Overview

The X-NUCLEO-53L4A2- is an evaluation expansion board designed for the VL53L4CX Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor, featuring STMicroelectronics' advanced histogram-based technology. It enables accurate absolute distance measurements from 0 mm up to 6 m, independent of target reflectance, and includes multiobject detection capabilities. The board is designed for the STM32 Nucleo ecosystem and uses Arduino UNO R3 connectors for rapid prototyping.

Why Choose This Part

This board provides a complete hardware environment with three different spacer heights (0.25, 0.5, and 1 mm) to simulate realistic air gaps behind cover glass. The histogram-based architecture ensures the sensor remains accurate even when the optics are obstructed by dust or fingerprints beyond 80 cm.

Applications

Service Robotics
Obstacle detection and avoidance using multiobject tracking and immunity to cover glass smudges.
User Detection
Low-power system activation and presence sensing for laptops, monitors, and kiosks.
Liquid Level Sensing
Non-contact measurement of fluid levels in industrial tanks or consumer appliances.
Industrial Ranging
High-accuracy distance measurement for warehouse automation and inventory management up to 6 meters.
