Overview

The XR31234ED is a high-performance 3.3V CAN transceiver designed for high-speed industrial and automotive communication networks. It supports data rates up to 1Mbps and is fully compatible with ISO 11898-2 standards while offering an ultra-low current sleep mode of typically 50nA. The device features integrated fault protection and a wide common-mode range to ensure reliable data transmission in electrically noisy environments.

Why Choose This Part

The device offers a wide -25V to +25V common-mode voltage range and +/-36V fault tolerance on bus pins, protecting against wiring errors and ground shifts. It features 5V tolerant LVTTL inputs, allowing it to interface directly with a variety of microcontrollers without level shifters. Its 100mV receiver hysteresis provides enhanced noise immunity in harsh EMI environments.

Applications

Industrial Automation
Used in PLC-based control systems and factory floor networking where 3.3V logic is required.
Robotic Control Systems
Facilitates communication between motor controllers and central processing units in high-speed robotic limbs.
HVAC and Building Control
Ideal for climate control networks that require low-power standby modes and robust EMI resistance.
Automotive Telematics
Suitable for in-vehicle networking and diagnostic ports requiring CAN 2.0 compatibility.

Getting Started

To evaluate the transceiver, use the XR31234EDEVB evaluation board to test signal integrity and power consumption. Ensure a 120-ohm termination resistor is placed at each end of the CAN bus for proper impedance matching. Connect the TXD and RXD pins to your microcontroller CAN peripheral and use the 3.3V supply rail for VDD.
