iCE40UP5K-SG48
Overview
The iCE40UP5K-SG48 is an ultra-low power FPGA from the iCE40 UltraPlus family, designed for high-performance mobile and edge applications. It features 5280 Look-Up Tables (LUTs) and 120 kb of RAM in a compact 48-pin QFN package, making it suitable for hardware acceleration and interface bridging in space-constrained designs. The device includes hardened I2C and SPI IPs along with specialized DSP blocks to offload complex computations from a host processor.
Why Choose This Part
The iCE40UP5K offers an exceptional balance of low power consumption, with a standby current of only 100 uA, and high logic density. It simplifies system design by integrating internal non-volatile configuration memory (NVCM) and a built-in oscillator, reducing the need for external components. The 0.5 mm pitch QFN package provides a robust and accessible physical footprint compared to BGA alternatives while maintaining a small 7x7 mm size.
Applications
Getting Started
Designers can use the Lattice Radiant software for synthesis, placement, and routing. For open-source workflows, the iCE40 family is well-supported by the IceStorm (Yosys/nextpnr) toolchain. Evaluation can be performed using the iCE40 UltraPlus Breakout Board or the iCE40UP5K-MDP-EVN Mobile Development Platform.
