Dear group,
Freescale is in the process of migrating to new more environmentally
friendly products. During this process, many of the HCS12 have appeared
to be marked with end of life status. This is due to the transitional
time required to get the new Pb free suffix part numbers up and running
in the system. During this time, the non environmental friendly device
is tagged with a "not recommended for new design status", as
the "leaded parts" are, in fact, not recommended.
Relative to the NE64, please revisit the product page as it was just
reposted with the new part numbers. There are no plans anytime soon to
EOL any HCS12 devices. In the future, if a device arises concerns,
please contact Freescale directly; our sales people can verify real
time status. For addition information please see:

I agree with Michal Konieczny, the information offered in the freescale website relateed to hcs12 is misleading and many times incomplete which makes you assume situations such as a near end of life.
