Started by Pablo October 11, 2006
Hello people, somebody knows about a free programmer for the HCs12
family? In old messages i didn't find information about free
hardware programmers.

Thank you very much,
Pablo (Argentina, Buenos Aires)

The HCS-12 family is pretty firmly committed to using the BDM interface for
programming a new part.

There was an effort to ship parts with pre-loaded flash programming
software, but it was not successful.

See http://cml.mfk.net.pl/hc12mem/ for open-source software to support
low-cost or do it yourself BDM interfaces.

Since sending and receiving information via the BDM interface requires
timing accurate to a cycle of the system clock or better, it's not feasible
have a BDM interface without some specialized hardware.

Someone has to pay for the hardware, so I think that finding a zero cost
programmer is unlikely.

I use

www.pemicro.com

This is not free but usable for both 08 and 12.
and
I got CodeWarrior Development Tools in the package which is free below 16k.
But is it work well.

That link is hc12mem software, not hardware. I think you want to make
TBDML:

hc12mem is software, but there's also 100% free, open hardware and open source
programmer called PODEX, designed initially by Marek Peca, and later slightly
improved by me (mainly bug fixes):
http://cml.mfk.net.pl/podex/
One can build PODEX for a cost close to few pennies, MCU used in PODEX can be
programmed using open source programmer (uisp).
So literally every hardware and software piece here is free, you only have to
pay for components, but they are really cheap.
hc12mem works with both PODEX and TBDML.
The main difference between PODEX and TBDML is PC interface - PODEX uses RS232,
TBDML uses USB. TBDML has limited target frequency, PODEX also, but there's
slightly overclocked version of PODEX working fine with 25MHz targets (NE64).
