Difference between HCS12 i.e. S12 and Star12

Started by nbahekar April 2, 2007
Hello All,

We are trying to dig out following questions.

Does HCS12 i.e. S12 is same as Star12?

Is S12X same as Star12X?

Is S12X same as HCS12X?

We are tring to find out information on internet but no resources
available.

thanks in advance,
Nbahekar.

I've been doing some calculating... any chance you're working on a 30
baud? ;-)

Bit like me, often I am a sentence behind thinking about what I am saying.

BTW, anybody experiencing delays with chip supplies?

I just ordered MC9S12DJ64MFUE (qty 100) from mouser.com, $10.77 ea,
only 10-12 wk lead time quoted.

Interesting, when I selected my device I went to the supplier and talked over desired spec, from there we browsed the stock levels and finally settled on the MC9S12DJ64MFU(E).
It did all that was needed and showed significant turnover and stock levels, done, and up till now we always had supply ex stock, usually ex Singapore, we buy in multiples of 84, tray size.

But since the takeover we seem to have delays in supply, dunno why, so we upped our buffer levels to have guaranteed supply, not cheap for a twelve week frame.

The other item is that you use the same device but a DJ version, a quick look shows the same data sheet but yours is significantly dearer, what is the diff?

Cheers,

Thanks Edward, must have a other browse through the data sheets

My employer finally learned to make scheduled orders. At the
beginning of the year, they make a scheduled commitment for certain
orders throughout the year. I guess the problem with that is that
while management plans ahead getting shipments, I'm redesigning the
whole robot systems (by their request), so often we end up with a
lot of obsolete surplus. I try to get us started selling stuff on
eBay, but something is holding them up. I guess they're scared that
legal issues might arise, or that they'll want those parts after
they finally sell them all (and many are hard to find).

I think the biggest problem with stocking now is hoarding. People
remember the problems they had, so they are overstocking for
themselves, buying out everything they can. Of course many are
hoping to sell theirs at a high price when nobody else seems to have
them in stock.

Not sure about all that, forward ordering or stocking in house has the
same effect on production, they still need to be produced, if it comes
to the point, I would imagine Freescale would have a very good idea
what the demand is going to be for a fair distance in the future.

And yes, no doubt there are some scalpers around, I sure can get
anything I need at twice or three times the price.

I am thinking of doing some selling on e-bay myself, apart from a ton
of accumulated leftovers I have 10k of 7812s to get rid of,
misordered, wanted 15V, only found out when the old batch run out, too
late to send them back.

For some odd reason we also all of a sudden have problems with triple
voltage switchmodes, not just the supply and cost, but also
performance, the leadfree ones although they have the same spec need
additional load to start up, extra resistor to be tacked on top an
otherwise perfect board.
We use hundreds of them but it is not enough to get the manufacturer
interested enough to sort it.
(The thing has a faster rise time, resulting in enough overshoot to
trigger the overvoltage protection.)

Ah well, the joys of manufacturing.

Cheers,

Theo
