Please help with LCD / Keypad code

Started by cubddh2003 March 19, 2004
Hi, iv been trying to hook up a keypad and an LCD to my adapt812 and
for some reason none of them are working. Can someone please post
the initialization software for the LCD and/or keypad. For the
keypad i am using PORTJ. I am not able to write data to the LCD. I
am grounding pin 3. When i read the DRAM address of the LCD after i
write a character, it does increment by 1 but i just get dark blocks
on my 2x16 LCD and it does not change. For the keypad please give me
all the initializations that i will need including pullup registers
and such. Its not working for me and i was wondering if its my code
or not. Thank you for your help.

I have no Idea if your hardware is hooked up correctly, but some LCDs do not use ASCII but a different mapping of numbers to characters, have you taken that into account?

One LCD "gottcha" is neglecting to adjust the contrast of the LCD before you
start using it.

If you go to the Axiom site there is a sample keypad program that you can
download for free. SCF

You might also go to the OEM site and look at the copy of the spec/user
manual for the device! SCF

One more suggestion: if you have a good storage scope you might be able to
determine what is wrong - it saved my bacon once when I was just getting
started... SCF
