Re: Embest SBC9261-I board users ?

Hi Kris,
You have not mentioned the purpose of your purchase, if it is 9261 or the beagle. I understood that you want something to play around with. I would suggest that you first consider that do you just need speed and processing, or do you need more down to the bits programming and a particular application in mind. The 9261 might do somethings as fast as the beagle. I have not worked with the 9261 to be honest, but is is definitely a capable chip, but this also means my comment is superficial, because I have no idea about the 9261 behavior in various instances, I have see a lot of posts about the programming and booting problems existing with the 9261 chips. Just because something is really cheap I would't take that route, because in some instances, the cheap is not necessarily also better, but this is not all cases, because for example ARM7 is also cheap and is also very good chip, but I would't say that the 9261 is the best amongst ARM9 series.
What do you say to that? Anyone ?
Best regards.

Hi Maziar,

The ultimate purpose is to get myself introduced to basic graphics
operation/coding on embedded Linux.
Up to now, I've been using an Olimex SAM9-L9260, currently running
2.6.31.6 built with Buildroot 2010.08. Use external toolchain, CT-NG
1.8.1 (CrossTool).
So I'm somehwat familiar with coding & customising bootstrap, U-boot,
kernel & rootfs on SAM9260.

Which is the reason I thought 9261 might be a good entry-level start.
It's been the same for getting started on Linux.
Using Ubuntu 10.04 on PC, it would take forever to figure out the
practical side of things like start-up scripts, basic workings of a
Rootfs skeleton etc. etc.

Booting problems you refer to I don't think are an issue, although I
have noticed posts about errata wrt booting on Nand etc.
I'll probably still stick for a while with the standard procedure
booting from DataFlash, holding AT91 bootstrap & U-boot....

Does that clarify it better ?

B rgds
Kris
