ATmega8
parallel PROGRAMMER with LPT connector
i want to use external crystal because my project is a clock and have a crystal with 32.768KHZ
I Programed fuses bit as the following
CKSEL3=1
CKSEL2=0
CKSEL1=0
CLSEL0=1

after i programed fuses bits i can not earase or program micro and the error message is chip enable error

hi

may i know more about your problem with programing mega fuse bit !!??
can you tell me more about your work ?
1-what controller you are use
2-which programmer you are use
3-why you connect external crystal
4-what "chip enable error" is means

sincerely yours A.Asa

Reduce your programming clock speed. The clock speed of the programmer should be 1/4 of the clock speed of the chip.

Regards

hi,
a crystal of 32 kHz is very slow, you can use a, you well get problems  to calculate time and update display & with spi programmer. you can use a crystal of some MHz, then use one of mcu timers to generate a periodic interrupt, use a variable which you load by the timer interrupt frequency & decrement it in the timer interrupt service until null, then you reload it, increment time and update display

i buy the other one mega8 and programed fuses bit on 8MHZ external and once more  chip enable error eccured. but when i programmed it to internal RC .i dont have any problem.
what can i do for recover the mega8 to programmed it ?

sOUNDS LIKE THE EXTERNAL CLOCK IS NOT FUNCTIONING FOR SOME REASON, APPLY A CLOCK SIGNAL TO ONE OF THE XTAL PINS (1MHZ FROM A SIG GEN) and then switch the clock back to internal. Try to find out why your external clock is not working.
